About BernadetteBernadette Kazar was a public school baker for 10 years serving children in grades K-12. She makes pierogies for her brother’s restaurant Dorothy 6 Blast Furnace Cafe and has won awards in the Pittsburgh Pierogie contests. A popular Dog Friendly Day at the restaurant offers Pawlicious Pet Food for its canine customers. Bernadette has been hard of hearing since early childhood. In March 2015 she was able to experience a life changing hearing improvement as a result of a cochlear implant. “It has been amazing to hear what sounds were missing in my life and what modern technology can do.”
Bernadette also won second place, out of 6 counties in Western PA, by the Post-Gazette for her flower and vegetable garden. Her vegetable garden helps supply a food source for Pawlicious Pet Food recipes. "I believe God had a purpose for my retirement and put dogs with issues in my life to prove how healthy food made without preservatives, additives, and byproducts can help improve canine family life and possibly longer longevity. We need to think outside the bag of dog food and what it's doing to our canine families." |
The Legacy of RubyBernadette started this pet food journey because of Ruby, her rescue cocker spaniel. Ruby was blind and had liver damage, the result of medications used to treat multiple medical issues. A friend suggested that a change of diet could help lessen some of her symptoms. Purchasing the book Dinner Pawsible, by Dr. Cathy Alinovi and Susan Thixton to research home cooking for six dogs led Bernadette to work directly with the author and holistic diet specialist, Dr. Cathy Alinovi. “Combining my cooking experience with advice and knowledge from Dr. Alinovi, I developed the healthy, balanced, homemade recipes and diet that I offer through Pawlicious Pet Food today.”
Bernadette remembers, the results were immediate, “almost right away Ruby had more energy, and after one week on the new diet, she quit her obsessive licking, a habit she had since she was adopted at the age of five. My white cocker spaniel, Revlon, also experienced improvements in her health. Her tear stains and orange paws completely disappeared after a short time on the new food. There was also a reduction in ear infections in all the spaniels.” Feeding the “girls” a tasty diet they loved, without excessive carbohydrates, grains and chemical additives, resulted in them losing weight, drinking less water, straining less when moving their bowels, their coats improved, and they required less veterinary care. Not everyone has time to prepare homemade food for their pets. Pawlicious Pet Food was launched in 2015 and has been providing nutritious meals to many dogs in the local Pittsburgh area. Let me supply YOU with food for your dog, too. |
